Nick Latimer, Executive Director of the Centre for Population, will discuss the role of the Australian Government’s Centre for Population and present highlights from its recent research. Located in the Treasury, the Centre is the focal point for demographic expertise within the Commonwealth Government and is responsible for producing its official population forecasts.

Specifically, the presentation will explore:

  • The outlook for net overseas migration;
  • Scenarios for rebalancing the geographic distribution of the population
  • The potential impact of fertility recuperation on future birth trends.

Additionally, Nick will share the Centre's new analysis examining fertility intentions in Australia. This study estimates how the Australian population might have changed if fertility intentions from 2001–2022 had been fully realised.
